The French Institute has started an initiative titled Villa Swagatam.

“We wish to create a community of French artists who will learn from the rich savoir-faire and history of the country and be willing to engage with it long-term. The chosen French residents who are chosen will have in common a strong desire to learn about India, its cultural ecosystem, and its know-how.” Says the villa Swagatam Website.

The institute will select and sponsor artists and writers from France to live in India. The artists will be chosen from various fields including literature. The Himalayan Writing Retreat is one of the selected partners which will be hosting these French writers.

The residency is only open to French citizens, and the details of the residency can be found on the French Institute website at https://www.ifindia.in/villa-swagatam/the-himalayan-writing-retreat.php
