Travel Writing Workshop
July 5 – July 12
This Travel Writing Workshop will introduce you to the basics of travel writing and provide practical advice that will help you with storytelling. It will teach you the basics of form, structure and style to help you outline your ideas and develop your own travel writing. You will figure out what kind of travel writing you want to do, and learn various techniques and literary devices that can help improve the narrative flow of your writing. You will also receive feedback on your writing.
The workshop will be delivered using a combination of teaching, reading and writing. It’s perfect for people who want to write travelogues, travel memoirs, features or blogs.
By the end of the workshop, you will:
- Understand how to structure a good piece of travel writing
- Learn literary devices that help you craft better travel stories
- Figure out how to improve your own writing
- Receive feedback in workshop mode on a short piece you’ve written
- Get individual feedback on an article you’ve written

The Travel Writing Workshop is spread over two days.
- Sunday : 05th July : 10am to 2pm
- Sunday : 12th July : 10am to 2pm
Participants will be sent some reading in advance of the workshop. They will submit a short, 500 word piece after Day 1, which will be discussed in workshop mode on Day 2. In addition, participants should draft a travel essay, part of a travel memoir or an article (perhaps, for a travel blog) in advance of the workshop and then revise and edit it based on learning gained from the workshop. The piece will be submitted for one-to-one evaluation to the course facilitator for individual feedback, soon after the workshop. It should not exceed 2000 words.
Participation in this workshop is limited to 12 only and we enroll participants on a first-come first-served basis.

Program Details
Day 1 :
On Day One of the Travel Writing Workshop we will cover what travel writing is, its different forms, and some basic photography tips. We will study how we can improve our writing by engaging a reader’s senses and using other literary ‘tricks’ to animate a comparatively flat piece of writing. You will get a chance to start developing your own writing and share it with the group.
Day 2 :
On Day Two of the Travel Writing Workshop we will get into the four integral parts of structure and deep-dive into each part. There will be more writing practice! We will assess different writing styles and discuss writing for magazines. You will learn how to write a good pitch and we will discuss the Dos & Donts of travel writing. You will receive group feedback on a short piece you’ve written in workshop mode.
The workshop will be conducted online, so you will need a good internet connection and a laptop (a phone will not do). In addition, you will be expected to read the coursework before Day 1 of the workshop, and start drafting a travel writing piece for evaluation, so please come prepared.
Post-workshop:
You will be asked to submit an original piece of travel writing by 17th August, 2025 for feedback from the course facilitator. This will be done via e-mail or on Google-drive.
