Travel Writing Workshop

July 5 – July 12

This Travel Writing Workshop will introduce you to the basics of travel writing and provide practical advice that will help you with storytelling. It will teach you the basics of form, structure and style to help you outline your ideas and develop your own travel writing.  You will figure out what kind of travel writing you want to do, and learn various techniques and literary devices that can help improve the narrative flow of your writing. You will also receive feedback on your writing.

The workshop will be delivered using a combination of teaching, reading and writing. It’s perfect for people who want to write travelogues, travel memoirs, features or blogs.

By the end of the workshop, you will:

  • Understand how to structure a good piece of travel writing
  • Learn literary devices that help you craft better travel stories
  • Figure out how to improve your own writing
  • Receive feedback in workshop mode on a short piece you’ve written
  • Get individual feedback on an article you’ve written

The Travel Writing Workshop is spread over two days.

  • Sunday : 05th July : 10am to 2pm
  • Sunday : 12th July : 10am to 2pm

Participants will be sent some reading in advance of the workshop. They will submit a short, 500 word piece after Day 1, which will be discussed in workshop mode on Day 2. In addition, participants should draft a travel essay, part of a travel memoir or an article (perhaps, for a travel blog) in advance of the workshop and then revise and edit it based on learning gained from the workshop. The piece will be submitted for one-to-one evaluation to the course facilitator for individual feedback, soon after the workshop. It should not exceed 2000 words.

Participation in this workshop is limited to 12 only and we enroll participants on a first-come first-served basis.

FAQs
  1. Why should I choose HWR Workshops?
  • Personal Attention: We don’t take more than 10 students in a class. You get a lot of personal attention and feedback. No classrooms of 20-30 people or one-way pre-recorded videos here.
  • Class Quality: For most courses, we filter our participants. You can’t just pay and sign up. We need to see a writing sample (in our application form) to ensure the class is of a uniform standard.
