Social Media Expert

The Social Media Expert will work to create a stronger Social Media presence and generate more business.

The Himalayan Writing Retreat (THWR) is India’s leading school of writing. We run online courses under the banner of HWR online. We are also a physical location where people come to learn writing. The retreat was co-founded in 2016 by two published authors – Chetan Mahajan & Dr. Vandita Dubey. The retreat is also a boutique physical property of six rooms which is purpose-built for writers. It is located in Satkhol Village, District Nainital, Uttarakhand.

In addition to the paid workshops, HWR also conducts many free programs such as the First Draft Club.

Expectations

We want to grow our social media footprint to bring in more leads for our workshops and for the hospitality business. THWR will benefit from a thought-through and strategic Social Media presence.

The SM Expert will handle all the social media for THWR. The specific tasks the Expert will perform are:

  • Understand the current work being done for THWR on social media.
  • Build on the current momentum already there for THWR, and suggest what we should be doing differently. Create a plan for activity by SM channel. For this, we are willing to invest in courses or learning programs the selected candidate may wish to enroll in.
  • Implement the THWR social media strategy for Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, Twitter & LinkedIn.
  • Uploading videos on our YouTube channel regularly with required editing.
  • Knowledge of basic video editing will be a plus though not mandatory.
  • Create a weekly activity calendar. This will include (but not be limited to) writing updates, writing news, pics/videos of the scenery, the venue, participant testimonials, and achievements & so on, on Social Media.

The goal of implementing this strategy would be to get more leads and business for THWR through social media.

Ideal candidate profile

Every member of our team takes pride in their work, and we’re looking for a similar passion in the SM Expert.

We seek a professional with the following credentials:

  1. Expertise in Social Media (evidence: professional campaigns you’ve built and run on Instagram / LinkedIn /FB / Twitter)
  2. A deep interest in writing, authors, and India’s writing landscape (evidence: published work/courses attended / network)

If you check both the above boxes, you may be the one. If you check the first box only, it might still work. However, if you only have an interest in writing, but have never handled Social Media professionally, this isn’t for you.

  • Language Mastery: You will be representing a Writing Retreat. Excellent English is a prerequisite.
  • Experience: Some proven expertise in handling Social Media Campaigns is required. Minimum 1 year’s work experience in this or a related field is a must.
  • Gender: All genders can apply. We’re LGBTQ-friendly.

Work conditions and money

Your reporting manager will be Chetan Mahajan, although you’ll work in coordination with other team members. Chetan is a thorough professional who has worked both in India and abroad. We hear that THWR is a good place to work. Although we’re too small for Glassdoor, our reviews may give you an idea of our reputation amongst our customers.

This is a part-time role and the person we hire can work from anywhere. THWR offers a remuneration of INR 15,000 – 20,000 per month depending upon experience, profile & fit.

The SM Expert is entitled to stay at the retreat for up to 20 days every year. This stay can include participation in select courses at the retreat, subject to availability.
