SUMMARY:The Himalayan Reading Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The Himalayan Writing Retreat\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReading is wondrous. We’ve grown up with books but somewhere\, somehow you may have lost that connection. Or maybe you read avidly and are hungry for the right company and setting. We think the connection to books is precious. We love to hang out with readers and get non-readers reading again. \n\n\n\nThis workshop is probably a first in India. A bunch of like minded readers – aspiring or otherwise – get together and read in the Himalayas. During this retreat you’ll finish a book or two\, read short stories and Poetry and chat about them with fellow readers. You will also learn about the biology and science of reading.  \n\n\n\nYou can either bring your own book (and tackle a bit of your ever-growing TBR pile) or you can choose the books to read from a list that we suggest. We’ll also share some short form content and poetry that everyone can read and discuss. \n\n\n\nIn this Reading Retreat\, we invite you to come to the Himalayas do what you love to do the most – Read\, read & then read some more. Debdatta Dasgupta\, our inhouse bookworm\, will be there to help and motivate you to learn how to build up your reading habits and read more. (See detailed program for details.)  \n\n\n\nParticipant Prerna Raturi talks about her experience at the Reading Retreat.Read her post here. \n\n\n\nThis retreat will be hosted at the Himalayan Writing Retreat in the Uttarakhand Himalayas. It is rated 5/5 from over 400 google reviews.  CN Traveller also covered it in this article. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDebdatta Dasgupta(Reader\, Reviewer\, Book Blogger)\n\n\n\n\n\nBorn to two avid readers & book hoarders\, Debdatta claims that she never had a choice but to be a reader. Not only was she always surrounded by books\, her mother regaled her with Sharadindu’s historical fiction for bed time stories and her father never said no to buying more books. It was of little surprise to those around her when she quit her 9 to 5  to freelance in the publishing world – just so that she could read more. And\, she has been at it since 2013 and now she reads both for work and pleasure.Debdatta has been blogging since February 2012 and has won multiple awards for her blog from Indiblogger\, Baggout\, Zorba Books & Top Indian Blogs. She also holds 3 Limca Book of Records for most reviews. She reads an average of 250 books a year. While she reads all genres\, her favourite genres are Psychological Thrillers & Epic Fantasies. When she is not reading (or dreaming about reading) – she can be found working at The Himalayan Writing Retreat (because what’s better than just reading? Reading in the Himalayas of course!) & with a few authors from around the world (so that she can pass off reading / talking / posting about books as work!). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Dear poet/writer\, we’d love to know you better. What are you writing? \n \n \n Prose\n Poetry\n Both\n \n \n\n \n \n In prose\, you prefer… \n \n Fiction\n Non-fiction\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n To stay informed about articles related to poetry writing\,\n would you like to get emails from us?\n We don’t spam and you can unsubscribe any time.\n \n \n \n \n \n Subscribe \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n In prose\, you prefer… \n \n Fiction\n Non-fiction\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n To stay informed about articles related to fiction writing\,\n would you like to get emails from us?And we’re happy to throw in two free courses\, too\n We don’t spam and you can unsubscribe any time.\n \n \n \n \n \n Subscribe \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n To stay informed about articles related to prose and poetry writing\,\n would you like to get emails from us?And we’re happy to throw in two free courses\, too\n We don’t spam and you can unsubscribe any time.\n \n \n \n \n \n Subscribe\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n To stay informed about articles related to non-fiction writing\,\n would you like to get emails from us?And we’re happy to throw in two free courses\, too\n We don’t spam and you can unsubscribe any time.\n \n \n \n \n \n Subscribe\n \n \n \n \n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgram Details\n\n\n\nThe program shared below is indicative\, and you are welcome to not follow. Walk. Chat. Mingle. \n\n\n\nDay 1: What Makes for a Good Poem? \n\n\n\nWe look at the ingredients of good poetry\, interspersed with readings of poems from around the world – canonical and less familiar. We analyse poems\, discuss what makes them work\, explore the role of metaphor and sound\, free verse and fixed form\, inspiration and craft. A day of intensive reading and discussion\, interspersed with writing exercises that incorporate some of the vital ingredients we zero in on. \n\n\n\nDay 2: The Poem Itself \n\n\n\nWe start by discussing how to approach a poem\, and then plunge into the writing of it. We allow ourselves time for quiet\, immersive work. We also allow ourselves time for group discussion and work at creating an ambience for supportive and rigorous workshop feedback. \n\n\n\nDay 3: All Those Questions \n\n\n\nPoets invariably have questions: the vexed business of writers’ block\, how to deal with naysayers\, how to find publishers\, the challenges of social media\, the festival maelstrom\, poetry for the page and the voice\, and many more. We try to address all these questions – the big ones and the small niggling ones. If we can\, we try to make time for one-on-one interactions. We share favourite poems. We conclude. \n\n\n\nDay 4: Leave after a leisurely breakfast \n\n\n \n\n\n \n Travel and Stay \n \n \n \n\nThe Himalayan Writing Retreat is built for writing and learning. We are rated 5-star on google and facebook. \n\n\n\nOnce here\, you will be sharing a room with a fellow participant (unless we’ve confirmed a single). All essentials like food\, hot water\, towels etc. are provided. No hidden costs. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Book Lounge on a Snowy day.\n\n\n\n\n\nIt can snow in winter. Weather can vary and the weather chart of Mukteshwar (12 km from the retreat) is here. A pair of sturdy walking shoes\, some rain protection and an extra layer or two are always a good idea. \n\n\n\nOur rooms are built to let nature in and inspire you. To see pictures of the rooms click here . To see pictures of the writing spaces click here \n\n\n\nDepending upon where you travel in from\, you can reach us by road\, train or air. Even if flying or taking a train\, the final stretch is a drive\, and the last 150 metres is a walk. \n\n\n\nBy Road \n\n\n\nThe retreat is a 370 km/9 hours drive from Delhi. If driving\, we recommend you leave early. Note that parking at the retreat is on the road – we do not have any private parking. We have limited driver accommodation\, so please check in advance. \n\n\n\nOvernight Volvo buses ply between Haldwani and Delhi\, the more reliable of which are government operated. You can book those here. Private Volvos and Sleeper buses also ply between Delhi and Haldwani\, which you can book on redbus. Make sure you pick a bus with a high (4+) rating. \n\n\n\nBy Train \n\n\n\nThere are three trains a day from Delhi to Kathgodam\, the nearest train station. Some others also come in from Kolkata\, Lucknow and Dehradun. From Delhi\, Ranikhet Express is a convenient overnight train both ways\, but finding tickets can be difficult.  \n\n\n\nMost people prefer to take the Kathgodam Shatabdi (Delhi dep: 6.20 AM\, Kathgodam Arr: 11.40 AM). A cab from Kathgodam to Satkhol takes about 2.5 hrs / Rs. 2200 (more for a big car). Cabs are often shared by participants.  \n\n\n\nBy Air \n\n\n\nThere are daily flights from Delhi to Pantnagar. A cab from Pantnagar to Satkhol takes about 3.5 hr / Approx INR 4K. \n\n\n\nThere are direct flights from Mumbai and Bangalore to Bareilly 3-4 days a week. Satkhol is a 5hr / INR 5.5k cab ride from Bareilly. (More for a big car). SUMMARY:The Ranjit Hoskote Nature and Writing Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:The Himalayan Writing Retreat\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis course is sold out. However\, if you are interested\, you can still apply and we will contact you in case of any cancellation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe’re small\, mortal\, ephemeral. Even more so when confronted with the scale and majesty of the Himalayas. They overwhelm us and when we burst at the seam\, what comes out are words. \n\n\n\nIn this unique Masterclass\, Ranjit Hoskote takes us into a journey into our senses\, our lived lives and the nature we all come from. We’ll look at the craft through these unique lenses\, one on each day. \n\n\n\nRanjit’s approach is based on ‘creative reading’ and ‘cross-training’\, so this Masterclass would benefit writers across genres. The sources Ranjit will bring into play will also be drawn from across the gamut of writing practices: poetry\, fiction\, non-fiction and so forth. See program below for details. \n\n\n\nThis masterclass will be held at the Himalayan Writing Retreat in the Uttarakhand Himalayas. It is rated 5/5 from over 400 google reviews.  CN Traveller also covered it in this article. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Dear poet/writer\, we’d love to know you better. What are you writing? \n \n \n Prose\n Poetry\n Both\n \n \n\n \n \n In prose\, you prefer… \n \n Fiction\n Non-fiction\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n To stay informed about articles related to poetry writing\,\n would you like to get emails from us?\n We don’t spam and you can unsubscribe any time.\n \n \n \n \n \n Subscribe \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n In prose\, you prefer… \n \n Fiction\n Non-fiction\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n To stay informed about articles related to fiction writing\,\n would you like to get emails from us?And we’re happy to throw in two free courses\, too\n We don’t spam and you can unsubscribe any time.\n \n \n \n \n \n Subscribe \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n To stay informed about articles related to prose and poetry writing\,\n would you like to get emails from us?And we’re happy to throw in two free courses\, too\n We don’t spam and you can unsubscribe any time.\n \n \n \n \n \n Subscribe\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n To stay informed about articles related to non-fiction writing\,\n would you like to get emails from us?And we’re happy to throw in two free courses\, too\n We don’t spam and you can unsubscribe any time.\n \n \n \n \n \n Subscribe\n \n \n \n \n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetailed Program\n\n\n\nIn this 3-day masterclass\, award-winning poet\, translator and visual-arts curator Ranjit Hoskote will invite participants into an exploration of the deep sensory horizons and untapped reserves of language-making that underly every creative writing practice. The sessions will focus on synaesthesia or accessing forgotten sensorial archives; on anamnesia or retrieving personal or collective histories that have been lost to sight; and on ecopoetics or a sensitivity to the perspectives of vulnerable species and habitats. \n\n\n\nThe masterclass will pivot around writing and discussion sessions\, as well as on exercises based on the direct experience of the Himalayan landscape within which the writing retreat is situated. \n\n\n\nParticipants will be given a set of readings in advance\, and will be expected to have engaged with these texts or other material\, in preparation for the workshop. \n\n\n\n\n \n Day 1: Synaesthesia/ Coming to Our Senses \n \n \n \n\nWe will begin with our motivations for writing. Why do we express ourselves inwords\, and how do we share what with others what we have made with words? Howcan we speak for our predicaments connecting with the vulnerability of others? Textsacross genres – poetry\, nature writing\, fiction\, memoir – will be shared anddiscussed. Participants will be encouraged to go out into ambient nature andexperiment with stepping out of their sensory comfort zone. Can we write withoutrelying on the visual and the verbal\, which are our dominant modes? What canlistening to a many-voiced silence teach us? \n\n\n \n\n\n \n Day 2: Anamnesia/ Retrieving Histories \n \n \n \n\nAll of us\, as writers\, hold on to objects\, events and people to whom we attach aspecial importance – as sources of magic\, inspiration\, fascination or fear. Such focalpoints belong both to memory and to the lived present. We may treat them as \n\n\n\nrecurrent motifs\, or mask them in allusions. How do we bear witness to the role theyplay in our imaginative lives? As a thought experiment\, participants will choose aparticular object – childhood talisman\, travel souvenir\, inheritance\, gift or chancediscovery – and to craft a text around it\, exploring both its materiality and theresonances it carries. \n\n\n \n\n\n \n Day 3: Ecopoetics/ New Interrelationships with Nature \n \n \n \n\nWe know that a traditional kind of nature-writing – whether in poetry or in prose – isno longer tenable. Glaciers are melting\, sea levels are rising\, forests are receding\,and the monsoon can be sullen and unpredictable. Living through this climate crisis\,how do we re-engage creatively\, meaningfully with the natural world. How do wedismantle our reflexes of species sovereignty? What responsibilities must we accepttowards other species\, our fellow tenants of this planet? How do we articulate theseshifts of consciousness\, sensibility and commitment through our writing? The lastday of the masterclass will explore a renewal of horizons. \n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n APPLY NOW\n \n \n \n\n\n\n \n About The Instructor \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\nRanjit Hoskote\n\n\n\nRanjit Hoskote is a poet\, cultural theorist\, translator and curator. SUMMARY:How to get Published with Kanishka Gupta & Rahul Soni
DESCRIPTION:The Himalayan Writing Retreat\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis edition of the course is now full. However\, if you are interested\, you can still apply and we will contact you in case of any cancellation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPublishing in India is akin to playing ‘dark room’.  You grope your way around an inky blackness and bump into things\, sometimes pointy or rough (like Literary agents charging upfront). You may follow a false speck of light\, trip and hurt yourself (by signing up with an iffy character – there are many of those). You make choices with incomplete or misleading information. And your brilliant Manuscript may never see the light of day. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Dear poet/writer\, we’d love to know you better. What are you writing? \n \n \n Prose\n Poetry\n Both\n \n \n\n \n \n In prose\, you prefer… \n \n Fiction\n Non-fiction\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n To stay informed about articles related to poetry writing\,\n would you like to get emails from us?\n We don’t spam and you can unsubscribe any time.\n \n \n \n \n \n Subscribe \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n In prose\, you prefer… \n \n Fiction\n Non-fiction\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n To stay informed about articles related to fiction writing\,\n would you like to get emails from us?And we’re happy to throw in two free courses\, too\n We don’t spam and you can unsubscribe any time.\n \n \n \n \n \n Subscribe \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n To stay informed about articles related to prose and poetry writing\,\n would you like to get emails from us?And we’re happy to throw in two free courses\, too\n We don’t spam and you can unsubscribe any time.\n \n \n \n \n \n Subscribe\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n To stay informed about articles related to non-fiction writing\,\n would you like to get emails from us?And we’re happy to throw in two free courses\, too\n We don’t spam and you can unsubscribe any time.\n \n \n \n \n \n Subscribe\n \n \n \n \n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKanishka Gupta is a respected guide to this treacherous landscape – he runs India’s largest literary agency\, Writer’s Side. Rahul Soni has worked\, published and translated in this industry\, and is currently with Harper Collins. (more about the instructors below). \n\n\n\nTogether\, they will illuminate this dark room. Over three+ days Kanishka and Rahul will throw light on the hidden corners and difficult aspects of publishing. They’ll get into the nuance and details. They will help twelve hand-picked writers with their pitch and proposal\, and get you much closer to landing a great publishing deal for your book. Kanishka may also sign-on workshop participants he finds worthy (like Agni in the video above\, who is already signed up with Harper Collins).  \n\n\n\nOf course\, it all starts with great writing. If you’ve been working on something you think deserves a good publishing contract and lots of readers\, apply now. This Masterclass will help your work get to it’s rightful place in the sun.  \n\n\n\nPlease remember that applications will be evaluated on the merit of the writing and the project\, so don’t do a rush job. Put your best draft forward.  \n\n\n\nDetailed Program\n\n\n\nDay 1\n\nPublishing Industry Overview\n\n\n\nIntroduce individual projects\n\n\n\nSubmission package elements\n\n\n\nQuery Letter\n\n\n\n\n\nDay 2\n\nSynopsis examples\n\n\n\nDrafting a great synopsis\n\n\n\nPersonalised feedback\n\n\n\n\n\nDay 3\n\nCopyrights – international\, audio\, screen\n\n\n\nContracts – representation / publishing\n\n\n\nHow to approach the right agents\n\n\n\nMarketing Plan\n\n\n\n\n\nThis masterclass will be held at the Himalayan Writing Retreat in the Uttarakhand Himalayas. SUMMARY:Write to Heal and Grow with Vandita Dubey
DESCRIPTION:The Himalayan Writing Retreat\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe still have two spots remaining for the April batch of this same course if those dates work better. \n\n\n\nCome\, join us for a walk among the pines\, oaks and the beautiful Himalayan Cedars. Breathe in deeply the fresh\, clean mountain air and breathe out upsets and fears. Take inspiration from the snow clad Himalayas standing steady and tall\, and re-discover the resilience within to weather life’s storms. Experience the joy that birdsong brings and re-discover your connection with everything that exists. \n\n\n\nNature and writing can instill in us a sense of peace and joy. At the Himalayan Writing Retreat\, we have experienced this first hand. Our co-founder\, Dr. Vandita Dubey (Clinical psychologist and published author) works on emotional wellbeing. This led her to dig further into psychology research to understand how and why that happens. \n\n\n\nStudies show that sustainable happiness or inner joy helps people have richer lives. They stay physically healthy\, have better relationships\, do better professionally\, be more helpful to others and be more resilient in the face of life’s challenges or difficulties. We’ve built this program to enhance and build that inner joy. To read participant reviews of the Himalayan Writing Retreat\, click here.    \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n I’M INTERESTED\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nView from our venue\n\n\n\nBook Lounge – Himalayan Writing Retreat\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis workshop is open to all people and non-writers are welcome. It has been put together using scientifically validated practices and theories from the field of psychology. \n\n\n\nThrough a host of different writing exercises you reflect on your life and process difficult experiences and emotions. These activities help you gain insights into your thoughts and feelings. You discover a new perspective and learn ways to deal with life’s challenges. \n\n\n\nMeditation sessions\, visualization and mindfulness exercises further enrich the experience and help calm the mind. Again\, this workshop is not about writing skills\, and you only share what you choose\, and feel comfortable with. \n\n\n\nThe Himalayan Workshop sessions are held in the open or in the book lounge. Some meals maybe served in the open too if the weather is good. The outdoors are a very inviting and inspiring here. \n\n\n\nWhile you’re here\, walk in the wilderness\, bask in the warmth of a fireplace\, and gaze at the stars. Let your eyes feast on the magnificent Himalayan dusks and dawns\, your ears on the live birdsong concert\, your lungs on clean crisp mountain air\, and your taste buds on the delectable\, homely fare. \n\n\n\nFor an intimate\, personal experience\, only the first 10 applicants are accepted. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImages from our earlier workshops\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTestimonials\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n I’M INTERESTED\n \n \n \n\n\nAbout the Instructor\n\nDr. Vandita Dubey \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Vandita Dubey is a US licensed Psychologist and a published author. Punning as always\, Chetan said “Matter exists in three states. HWR now exists in two – Uttarakhand and Karnataka.” \n\n\n\nTo know more about the instructor\, click here. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Ocean Retreat is the white building with the red roof \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n APPLY NOW\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn the CWC\, Ten participants work closely\, write (and laugh) a lot\, get personalized feedback\, and make tangible progress. Seven rooms sit atop three almost private beaches. Like the Himalayan retreat\, the Ocean retreat is ensconsed in nature\, surrounded by beauty and wilderness. In addition to walking on the beach\, the cliffs just above the retreat offers some great hikes and views. \n\n\n\n\n\nChetan\, the instructor\, on a cliff close to the Ocean retreat.\n\n\n\n\n\nNeither place is pretentious. Rustic as opposed to manicured\, earthy instead of high luxury\, both places connect us to our creative essence. Instead of a swimming pool\, there is the big blue ocean to swim in . Instead of air conditioning expect a cool sea breeze. Instead of a fancy menu\, expect a buffet of drool-inducing home cooked North Kerala cuisine. \n\n\n\nThere are no classrooms here. The learning spaces are a mix of outdoor spaces and verandahs with comfortable seating. Similar to HWR\, the Ocean retreat is well run with great food and magnificent sunsets. The birds sing as loudly here\, and the surf replaces the silence. \n\n\n\nThe Ocean retreat will inspire you. Walk. Chat. He considers himself a story monk i.e. both a student as well as a practitioner and teacher of storytelling. CEO’s\, change makers and business leaders from across the world have turned to him for help with their stories. He has studied business administration and followed that up with a course in advertising & media planning from MICA. Formerly a Vice President at Ogilvy & Mather\, Ameen has over 20 years of experience in advertising\, marketing\, consulting and theatre. \n\n\n\nHis work is deeply influenced by his experiences in communications\, both as a marketer and as an actor. He learned storytelling while creating campaigns for some of the biggest brands\, helping start-up founders raise funds and while telling stories to those with the lowest attention spans – children. When not studying or teaching storytelling\, he loves climbing hills and playing table tennis. \n\n\n \n\n\n \n Detailed Program – The Storyteller’s Way \n \n \n \n\nWhat Happens At The Retreat? \n\n\n\nGoing wide. SUMMARY:Witness and Wildness with Tishani Doshi
DESCRIPTION:The Himalayan Writing Retreat\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWitness and Wildness: Poetry in the Himalayas\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDay One: Eco-poetics\n\nMorning walk: Solo\, with notebook. Participants instructed to write impressionistic notes of the landscape they find themselves in. Then\, try to hone in on one particular thing—a tree\, object\, sound\, smell\, stay with it\, and try to find a connection from that outer thing to some emotion inside you.  \n\n\n\nWorkshop session: Introduce eco-poetics\, look at examples of Tamil Sangam poetry\, at notions of inner and outer\, making connections with landscape. Share backgrounds of our respective “thinnais” or landscapes – create our own ecomaps. From these ecomaps\, write 2 or 3 short lyric poems in the mode of the Sangam poets.  \n\n\n\nJournal prompt: Write about a landscape from your childhood\, it doesn’t need to be a place necessarily\, but a season in a place. Make as detailed as possible. Who were you in that landscape\, what were you waiting for? Collective poem: Each participant contributes an opening line to a shared poem that will accumulate across three days. \n\n\n\n\n\nDay Two: Love/Praise\n\nMorning walk: In pairs this time. Each pair given a prompt. maybe find something that is dying and something that is persisting\, or something that looks like it belongs to a creature—a burrow\, or nest. Again\, impressionistic writing but with as much detail as possible.  \n\n\n\nWorkshop session: Gather to talk about our walks. Focus on love as a radical and activating force in poetry. We’ll look at Neruda’s odes to various ordinary objects (ode to tomatoes\, ode to socks etc). Everyone will write a praise poem of extraordinary love to an ordinary object.  \n\n\n\nJournal prompt: What do you love that you are afraid of losing? Collective poem continues: Each participant adds a line in response to someone else’s opening line from Day One. \n\n\n\n\n\nDay Three: Rage\n\nMorning walk: Solo again. This time\, we look at things in the landscape that are inciting a quality of rage. Plastic\, say\, or unruly building\, things that are damaging the landscape and its inhabitants.  \n\n\n\nWorkshop session: Gather to talk about our walks. Rage as a craft question. How can we shape fury into form without losing its heat or becoming didactic. Discussion of the curse poem\, the protest lyric. Look at poems by Audre Lorde\, Mahmoud Darwish\, June Jordan. Try to write a poem that holds love and rage.  \n\n\n\nJournal prompt: What have you witnessed over these three days that you cannot be silent about. Anger toward place\, person\, loss\, injustice. Try to create images\, rather than to just rant.  \n\n\n\nCollective poem: Final contributions…..  \n\n\n\nFinal evening reading: Each participant selects one piece from the three days that they’d like to read. And then we’ll share the collective poem. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEarly Bird Price\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTaxes Extra\n\n\n\nEarly Bird ends July 27\, 2027\n\n\n\nStrict Zero-Discount Policy\n\n\n\nAccommodation on twin-sharing basis\n\n\n\nEarly Bird (single occupancy) INR 63000 + GST\n\n\n\nRegular price (single occupancy)INR 69000 + GST\n\n\n\n\n\nAPPLY NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Instructor\n\n\n\n\nTishani Doshi\n\n\n\nTishani Doshi publishes poetry\, fiction and essays. For fifteen years she worked as the lead dancer of the Chandralekha company in Madras\, India\, performing on stages all across the world\, and as such\, the body has been a central preoccupation in her work—a vehicle to explore gender\, violence\, sexuality and power\, but also as an agent of renewal and transformation. Since her debut\, Countries of the Body\, which won the Forward Prize for best first collection (2006)\, she has sought to find joineries between the lyric and the political. Girls Are Coming Out of the Woods (2017) headlined the All About Women Festival at the Sydney Opera House and was shortlisted for a Ted Hughes Award.
